"The idea of the Walk 'n' Talk is to get people from different ethnic groups together with the local community. To get together and walk along and to get a history of the places we are going to walk around and for people to get to know each other; share experiences, share information and for the people of the hostel to get out of the hostel and get a bit of relief from the tension some of them are experiencing.

We’ve got a lot through PEACE III – lots of projects; lots of connections; lots of going out; lots of information; lots of new experiences. So it’s provided absolutely huge benefits ."

Walk n Talk

The Walk 'n' Talk scheme was initiated as part of the Cultural Diversity programme to foster a sense of place among asylum seekers living in the county. It aims to allow immigrants to establish relationships with local people, promoting integration and inclusion whilst enabling them to practice their English language skills. The idea is to invite asylum seekers and people from the local community to get together on guided walks in various parts of the county. Together they learn about the environment, its history and its geography while taking part in some beneficial physical activity. The walks allow participants to share cultures, ideas and conversations and to begin to build relationships.
