"There’s a huge benefit with PEACE III support. Initially we used to do programmes in our community centre which is a small premises and we used to do it on a very small scale, purely because of space and support. Last year, we did Diwali, which was about 70-80 Indians getting along [together]. We were not in a position to bring in a lot more people because of resource constraints. This year, we met Dessie Larkin to roll out what was happening in a calendar year and he mentioned PEACE III projects and where we could work together and synergise and do things in a bigger way. We’ve had 20-25 calls a day since last week for today’s event and all the tickets are gone."

India Independence Day
India Independence Day celebrations took place on August 15th 2010 in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny. Hundreds of people from the diverse range of Indian cultures represented in Donegal and Derry came together to commemorate the country’s independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation in 1947. The event was just one of the projects funded under PEACE III’s Cultural Diversity Programme which is coordinated by Dr. Karin White. PEACE III has also funded celebrations of India’s Onam festival as well as storytelling events so that the Indian people living in the North West can share their culture.
