"At one point during our painting day in the Rosapenna Hotel, the two of us stopped for a minute and we looked around us and everyone had their head down, concentrating on their work; at ease, relaxed. And we just said to each other: this is working."

"There was just such a lovely atmosphere. It wouldn’t have mattered whether you were a pauper, or whether you were a millionaire or what status you had. Everyone was very equal in that room, no matter who they were or what class or creed they had.

Because there is a part of you that thinks, '€30,000, you know – this is a lot of money. It might be better spent on health or education or roads or something'. But I remember thinking that day – this was worth it."

The project assembled representative samples of written work of literary value, past and present, from the Stranorlar Electoral area and neighbouring areas. These were edited and published as an 800-page book and 1,000 copies were printed. The book contains literature in several different languages – English, Ulster-Scots and Irish. These books were distributed free to libraries and other bodies. The Fiach Arts group and the Castle Artists, Castlederg selected themes, scenes, and motifs from this body of literature and used them to produce approximately 25 paintings inspired by texts from the book. The art exhibition and book were launched in the Balor Arts Centre in August 2010. The exhibition will be taken around Ireland in an effort to foster more enlightened relationships between Protestant and Catholic citizens.
