"This PEACE III funding takes the opportunity of peace by engaging all groups within the community in actions whereby relationships and cross-community communication can be fostered and advanced through working together towards building good community relations. The aim of our primary school cross-border project is to establish relations and understanding between children from all backgrounds at a very early age. This contributes to a key message within the Donegal Peace Action Plan – the need to address sectarianism and racism from early years through education and training at pre-school, primary and secondary school level.

Everything we do is cross-border and cross-community. Any activity, I think, as long as there’s a common interest, that gets people together…it doesn’t have to be extravagant; as long as they have a common interest and shared experiences then people will gel together. And we promote that at a grass roots level here in Pettigo and Tullyhommon ."

Bridging the Gap

The aim of Bridging the Gap is to regenerate the areas of Pettigo in Co. Donegal and Tullyhommon in Co. Fermanagh and share their delights with both the community and tourists alike. A river separates the villages and the residents must join efforts across the international border to achieve the best possible outcome for the communities. The project aims to establish a process of ongoing regeneration in all aspects of life in Pettigo & Tullyhommon and support the creation of community structures that have the capacity to work towards developing themselves on an ongoing basis, at a cross-border, cross-community level. Through a programme of activities, ADOPT is supporting these groups in reaching a level of coherence and co-operation.
