"This has shown the people that we all went and fought side by side and there was no difference in war in what you were or who you were. You were there and it didn’t ask you whether you were an Orange man or whether you were a Protestant or whether you were a Catholic. You were there - one was helping the other and that’s what a lot of the people in this area have learned from the trip."

Thiepval Memorial LOL 1916

This project worked with the minority Protestant community to help them build their confidence through increasing their awareness of the history and culture surrounding their community. It also strengthened cross-border social infrastructure by twinning with a group of a similar nature in a neighbouring county in Northern Ireland. The main action of this project was to visit the battle sites of the Somme and remember those who lost lives from both sides of the community. This gave the groups from both sides of the border the opportunity for a frank and open discussion on the shared history.
