"The Small Grants Programme has really benefited the Centre and the village. It’s given more opportunity for the different strands of the community to come together. In a village like this, we actually have three or four different halls, three or four different churches, two different schools, so whilst there are a lot of things going on, sometimes there’s not the opportunity to integrate with each other.

So, up here under the Inter-church Committee, we have a building that’s seen as neutral so it’s very easy to get uniform support when we run courses and programmes. People feel more secure in coming here – they don’t feel that they’re trading their own identity just to benefit from a course or an activity ."

Newtowncunningham Interchurch Housing Association Ltd.

The overall project aim is to provide social housing and a Day Centre targeted at the elderly. These units of housing provide good quality homes in a safe and secure environment where company is close and independent living is supported. It is hoped that the Centre will be homely, inviting, welcoming and a melting pot of traditions, support networks, respect and learning for both young and old. As part of the project, the committee aims to engage in a programme of events where both young and older learn with and from each other whilst promoting greater inter-community, cross-community and cross-border participation and awareness.
