Local Government Anti-Poverty Network

The Local Government Anti-Poverty Learning Network (LGAPLN) was established by the Combat Poverty Agency in collaboration with the National Anti-Poverty Strategy (NAPS) Unit in the Department of Social and Family Affairs and with the Department of the Environment and Local Government.

The primary aim of the network who core membership is local authority officials and elected members is to "promote and support the development of a strong anti-poverty focus within a reformed system of local government".

The network has met four times since the beginning of 2001 and these meetings consist of inputs on key issues, case studies on best practice and up to date information on anti-poverty work in local authority setting.

The Donegal County Council members are:

Senator Joe McHugh
Clr. Rena Donaghy
Clr. Albert Doherty
Ms. Claire Mulhall, CEDO

Donegal County Council elected Members and Senior Officials recently participated in a training workshop on tackling poverty in a local authority setting. This session was facilitated by Venture International on behalf of the Combat Poverty Agency and was very well attended. A number of recommendations have emerged and will serve as a basis for progressing anti-poverty work in Donegal County Council.
