MFG was established in 1991, as a Partnership between community representatives, state agencies, farming interests, employers, trade unions, educational institutions, to take responsibility for development in their own area, while maintaining the unique language and culture of the Gaeltacht. MFG administers the National Rural Development Programme (NRDP), which now replaces the LEADER Programme.
MFG is committed to giving direction, leadership and encouragement to the Gaeltacht Community to progress its self-confidence and self-development, thereby enabling it to fully develop all aspects of life economic, social, cultural, heritage, environmental and educational with special emphasis on disadvantaged communities, particularly by listening to them and by always acknowledging them.
