Community, Culture and Enterprise Directorate

The Community, Culture & Enterprise Directorate has been set up as a new Unit within Donegal County Council. The aim of the Community, Culture and Enterprise Unit is to work towards supporting and promoting economic, social, cultural and community development in County Donegal, thereby promoting social inclusion and enhancing the quality of life of all who reside in the County. One of the main roles of the Unit has been to support the establishment and provide ongoing support to, the new Donegal County Development Board (CDB).

The Community and Enterprise Unit is the Executive Unit of Donegal CDB.

Under the reform of local government processes, Cultural Services now falls under the Directorate of Community and Enterprise.

Objectives

The key strategic objectives of the Community and Enterprise Unit are:

  1. To co-ordinate and assist Donegal County Development Board (and essential CDB structures) in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Integrated County Strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural Development.

  2. To further develop and support Donegal County Councils role in the promotion of Social Inclusion.

  3. To strengthen and support Donegal County Councils role in the area of community development.

  4. To co-ordinate a range of national strategies/policies at county level.

  5. To support and facilitate the participation of the Community and Voluntary sector in local governance.

  6. To support and facilitate Donegal County Development Board in implementing the recommendations of the Donegal Employment Initiative Taskforce Report.

  7. To manage and administer specific development supports, programmes / funds.

  8. To promote and support economic, social and cultural development initiatives in the County, and to co-ordinate the County Councils activities in this context.

  9. To act as a resource for strategic planning, policy and research in the County.

  10. Work towards ensuring that the Irish Language plays a key role in all aspects of development.

  11. To promote specific resource developments in Tourism Product development and Marine & Water based leisure activities.

  12. To promote cross-border developments (economic, social and cultural) and to establish partnerships for such developments with Local Authorities in Northern Ireland.

  13. To promote and utilise EU resources, networks and models of good practice in the context of the Implementation of the County Strategy.

  14. Undertake Projects through the Unit in terms of co-ordination and implementation on behalf of the County Development Board.
